My name is Mike and I am an addict.
But I am much more than a recovering addict. I am a father, an ex-husband, an ex-lover, a former professional industrial operations consultant. I have, at different times in my life, been involved with various churches, fund-raising events, and social organizations. I enjoy reading, writing, music, photography, art, graphic design, and so much more; But I believe recovery has to be my top priority. I have been warned that I run the risk of losing anything that I put before my recovery.
A former career took me to many places around the Southeastern and Northern U.S. (e.g., Mississippi, Michigan, South Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin), but I am originally from the middle Georgia area, and I currently live in Macon, Georgia where I am actively involved in a 12-Step recovery program.
I am a member of a local Narcotics Anonymous group, but this site is NOT officially affiliated with Narcotics Anonymous or any other specific recovery program. This is a personal blog where I hope to share my own experience, strength, and hope with other recovering addicts or anyone with an interest in recovery. It is important for the reader to understand that this blog does NOT represent the NA program. It is just as likely to represent my own misunderstandings of that program, for I am NO expert on the NA program, nor am I an expert on recovery in general. Please keep this in mind.
Postings will be formatted very much like personal journal or diary entries; however they will focus exclusively on recovery-related things going on in my head and in my life, and the specific experience, strength, and hope I have to share on the topic of the posting. Topics will be selected from readings in selected recovery literature and from topics in 12-Step meetings I actually attend. In each posting, I will write what I could have shared, should have shared, or possibly did share in a meeting about the topic.
At most 12-Step meetings attendees are prohibited from giving advice during a meeting; At this site, however, I welcome your feedback, advice, or general comments about any posting. I especially welcome you to share your own experience, strength, and hope relative to the topic, OR to just share where you are in your recovery today. Be advised, however, that other visitors to this site will be able to see your comments. If you would prefer for your comments not to be seen by others, but wish to share them with me, feel free to email them to me at m_b_sapp@yahoo.com
Finally, if you know who I am, I ask that you respect my anonymity. If I know who you are, I will do the same.
